Responsibilities

We are delighted to launch this exciting opportunity to join an ambitious and forward-thinking College to support students throughout their Skills Bootcamp programme to securing a job or apprenticeship opportunity. Do you have a careers, mentoring or recruitment experience?

We are looking to recruit a Career, Apprenticeship & Skills Mentor, to work with adults on both a group and individual basis, to ensure a positive student journey experience through their training programme to employment.

The Career, Apprenticeship & Skills Mentor will:

  • Mentor students during their 12-16 week skills programme
  • Develop progression action plans and provide job and apprenticeship opportunity search support
  • Support students to secure a positive destination at the end of their training.

This is a Fixed Term Contract for 1 year, working 37 hours per week / 52 weeks per year. Successful candidates will be based at our Aylesbury Campus and Flackwell Heath Campus.

Person Specification

Essential:

Formal Qualification

  • Level 3 qualification in relevant area in a relevant subject area or equivalent in industry experience.
  •  Maths and English qualification to Level 2 or higher.
  •  Careers, Information, Advice or Guidance qualification

Knowledge

  • An understanding of, and demonstrable commitment to, Safeguarding Children and Young People and Vulnerable Adults
  •  Awareness of the need to protect confidential information
  •  Knowledge of administrative systems
  •  Knowledge of post-16 education, particularly Apprenticeships

Experience

  • Experience of working with young people
  •  Experience of working in (apprenticeship) recruitment
  •  Experience working in an educational environment
  •  Experience of supporting students with UCAS applications

Skills

  • Effective communication skills
  •  Good organisational and time management skills
  •  The ability to take responsibility for several jobs simultaneously, and see them through to completion
  •  Ability to promote and deliver outstanding customer service.
  •  The ability to use own initiative in the solution of problems
