Bucks County Council budget consultation 2019/20

The business voice needs to be heard. Help to shape what the council spends and on what services it spends it. Have your say by November 14.

Buckinghamshire County Council’s annual budget consultation is under way, giving you the chance to have an impact on where the council will prioritise its spending throughout 2019/20.

In its Strategic Plan 2017-2020, Buckinghamshire County Council states that it will work with its partners to “enable the right conditions and incentives to attract new and growing businesses to Buckinghamshire, driving economic growth".

Unless businesses now reiterate the need to support businesses (which in the long term will generate the taxation revenues for the Exchequer to pay for public services) it is unlikely that budget will be prioritised for this important activity. When taking the survey, if you feel that supporting business is important please indicate in the appropriate places. At the end of the survey you can state whether you are responding as a resident or as a representative of a business.

Cost savings in the council’s plan

In the introduction to the budget consultation, Councillor Martin Tett, Leader of Buckinghamshire County Council, says: “We are amongst the increasing number of councils who now no longer receive any central government funding for day to day services, which means that despite having made savings in our budget of £102 million over the last five years, which has helped us manage our increasing costs so far, we will need to make further cost savings in order to balance the books next year.”
