‘Eat Out to Help Out’ allows food businesses to offer a 50% discount to customers which is fully reimbursed by the government. ‘We’re Good to Go’ is an industry standard mark for businesses in the visitor economy to show they are back open in a safe manner.
‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme
The Eat Out to Help Out registration service is now live. You can use the scheme to offer a discount to diners, while being fully reimbursed by the government.
You can register if your establishment:
- Sells food for immediate consumption on the premises
- Provides its own dining area or shares a dining area with another establishment for eat-in meals
- Was registered as a food business with the relevant local authority on or before 7 July
You can use the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme:
- all day, every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3rd to 31st August 2020
- to offer a 50% discount, up to a maximum of £10 per person, to diners for food or non-alcoholic drinks to eat or drink in
- to claim the money back from the government
There is no limit to the number of times customers can use the offer during the period of the scheme. Your customers cannot get a discount for someone who is not eating or drinking. Alcohol and service charges are excluded from the offer.
Registration will close on 31st August.
How to make a claim through the scheme
If you have registered your establishment for the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme, you can:
- claim back the discount given on food and non-alcoholic drinks
- submit weekly claims for August until 30th September
When you can claim
You can make a claim after 7 days from the date of your registration. You can only claim for scheme discounts you offered on or after the date you registered.

‘Were Good to Go’ industry standard mark
Visit Britain and Visit England have launched an industry standard mark for businesses in the visitor economy to show they have complied with government and public health guidance and are back open in a safe manner.
The ‘We’re Good To Go’ industry standard and supporting mark means businesses across the sector can demonstrate that they are adhering to government and public health guidance and have carried out a COVID-19 risk assessment. The scheme is free to join and open to all businesses across the sector.
To obtain the mark, businesses must complete a self-assessment through an online platform, including a check-list confirming they have put the necessary processes in place. If you are successful, you will receive certification and the ‘We’re Good To Go’ mark for display in your premises and online.
Before applying, make sure you have:
- read and implemented the government’s COVID-19 reopening guidance for the visitor economy
- understand the guidance from Public Health England
- have a COVID-19 risk assessment in place
