Grants on offer to deliver Christmas activities for local children

Could your organisation provide enriching and healthy activities for disadvantaged children and young people over the Christmas holidays? Buckinghamshire Council wants to hear from you.

Through the government’s Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme, the council is making funding available to work with local organisations to help deliver a range of free holiday activities for children aged 5 to 16 who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals.

The council is inviting applications from local organisations to deliver holiday clubs and activities and a hot food offer over the Christmas school holidays 2021. HAF Grant Funding is available to community and voluntary organisations, not for profit companies, registered charities, constituted organisations, social enterprises, schools and private companies.

A wide range of activities could be provided to help children and young people develop new skills or a future hobby or socialise and have fun. Potential ideas for Christmas holiday activities are below, but new ideas are warmly welcomed:

  • Sports/multisport clubs
  • Dance clubs
  • Art and design or photography activities
  • Cookery or bakery classes
  • Day trips (Winter Wonderland, pantomime, cinema, bowling, climbing wall, indoor leisure venues)
  • Christmas party for younger children with a tree and presents, lunch or afternoon tea with Santa, party games and a disco
  • Gaming activities day
  • Pamper/beauty activities
