Local housing causes to benefit from £500,000 as Nationwide opens grant fund

Local community housing projects and charities are being urged to put their case forward as Nationwide, the world’s largest building society, makes £500,000 available to help make a difference to communities across 11 UK regions.

Charities, community land trusts and housing co-operatives in Buckinghamshire can apply for grants of between £10,000 and £50,000 for housing projects that will support the most vulnerable in local communities.

Henry Allmand, CEO at Heart of Bucks Community Foundation said: “Finding safe, affordable and sustainable housing is a growing challenge for communities across Bucks. That’s why we’re proud to work with Nationwide Building Society to fund the organisations tackling this issue on the ground and supporting those who need it most.”

So far, Nationwide has awarded £7m in grants to more than 180 projects and will be investing over £20m in housing projects across the UK over five years. The programme is being delivered with support from UK Community Foundations, the national network for all accredited community foundations across the country.

Last year Youth Concern, a charity based in Aylesbury that supports young people, were awarded £32,027 from the fund. The grant will support the provision of a supported housing officer to work with the tenants living in youth homelessness supported accommodation over a period of two years.

The application process closes on 22nd November 2019 and successful applicants will be notified by the end of February 2020.

Full details can be found at www.nationwide.co.uk/communityfunding, in local Nationwide branches or by contacting Heart of Bucks.

Help Red Kite Radio broadcast live!

Red Kite Radio, the only community radio station for Haddenham, Thame and the villages, want to increase their community links by broadcasting live from events across the area.  Every year, they attend dozens of events, from village fetes to beer festivals, but none can be broadcast live at present.

Red Kite Radio are looking for your support with their campaign on Aylesbury Vale District Council’s Our Vale platform, a great way of turning project ideas into reality through crowdfunding. They want to raise £5,000 from the public to fund outside broadcasting equipment, so they can broadcast from events as they happen in real time.

When Red Kite Radio presenters go to events now, they have to record interviews with the public and those involved in running them. Red Kite Radio can broadcast from events the same day but recording has to be an hour in advance so that the software can build interviews into the broadcast playlist. That’s time-consuming - and it’s not live!

Outside broadcast equipment would make it much easier to transmit from events as they happen. Outside broadcasts will be far more interactive because Red Kite Radio will be able to play requests on the spot and invite people in the audience to take part live.

Red Kite Radio need your support to provide you with a better service, so go to the crowdfunding page to make a pledge!

They need to raise £5,000 by 25th November in order to be able to purchase the equipment and any pledge is welcome - from just £2 to larger donations.
