This Mentor Training session will give you a starting point on your mentor journey, ensuring that you are both supporting another business owner but also gaining from the experience yourself.

The session will cover:

  • Mentoring Skills: Mentoring involves creating an environment for independent thinking and helping others discover their potential
  • Thinking Environment: The Thinking Environment has 10 components including Attention, Equality, and Encouragement
  •  Core Skills: The GROW framework and asking powerful open-ended questions are core skills for mentoring
  • Adding Value: Appreciation is important in mentoring and should be Specific, Succinct, and Sincere
  • Taking Action: Mentors should take action by identifying changes, committing to development, and tracking progress

About Elizabeth Adlington

Elizabeth is a qualified and accredited executive coach who works with individuals so that they can experience measurable improvement in their performance at work.  This is achieved by working closely with her clients to identify their goals and enable them through bespoke coaching interventions to articulate clear ideas and the plans to achieve them.

Elizabeth’s career spans 30 years in the arts and cultural sector.  She is an experienced leader and manager and is used to working in an innovative and creative environment providing strategic direction and adding value to the organisations she led.  She has worked in the public sector with Arts Council England as Director of Touring and International Strategy and more recently for Ambassador Theatre Group in the commercial theatre sector as Chief Executive of three of their most successful UK theatres; Milton Keynes Theatre, New Theatre Oxford, and she was responsible for the opening of the £50m Aylesbury Waterside Theatre in 2010.  Her experience has brought her into routine contact with colleagues working at government and board level, senior management, and with the media.  Elizabeth has also worked with international partners to establish and manage arts programmes in China, Brazil, Canada, and Singapore. She is now Director of her own coaching practice, based in Buckinghamshire, Adlington Young Ltd.

Elizabeth is a Member of the Association of Coaching, an accredited workshop trainer and assessor for Roche Martin Emotional Capital Reports, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.  She was appointed as Chair of the MD Ngage Pioneer Group in October 2017. Elizabeth has carried out a number of voluntary roles as a Patron, Trustee, Chairman of School Governors, and Board Director.  She was a Non-Executive Director of Buckinghamshire Business First (2011-2015) and Chair of the Bucks Strategic Tourism Group.
