Probationary Periods Done Properly (17 Mar 26)

As you’ll no doubt be aware, the law is changing so that anyone you hire from 1 July onwards will have the right to claim unfair dismissal after just 6 months’ service.

With that in mind, we’re running a 2 hour practical training session to help employers review and tighten up their probationary period processes, including:

  • first day induction
  • initial job training
  • setting clear expectations of performance and conduct
  • setting people up for success
  • giving regular constructive feedback
  • not shying away from problems – discussing them early
  • being clear about consequences if expectations aren’t met
  • making and communicating decisions to dismiss
  • avoiding “automatically unfair dismissal” (which can be claimed from day one if the dismissal relates to certain specific reasons)

The aim is to help you reduce risk and make sure your hiring and probation processes are doing what they should: supporting performance, and protecting your organisation if things don’t work out.

It will be £30 + VAT to attend - although existing clients can contact us directly to get a free place.
