What happens when the unexpected becomes your problem?
Most businesses have plans, processes and people they rely on.
And most of the time, they work.
But what happens when something changes? When the information is incomplete, the pressure is building and people are looking to you for decisions?
That's what we're going to explore.
Not through a presentation or another checklist, but by putting you in a situation where you have to decide what happens next.
What actually happens in this workshop?
We'll bring together 10–15 business owners and leaders from different sectors and give them a realistic business challenge.
It starts with a problem. Nothing particularly unusual. The sort of thing that could happen to almost any business.
Then the situation develops.
New information comes in. Circumstances change. Decisions have consequences. And what seemed straightforward a few minutes ago might suddenly look rather different.
You'll work through the situation together, deciding what matters, what can wait, who needs to know and what you'd do next.
There are no trick questions and we're not trying to catch anyone out.
The aim isn't to get everything right. It's to discover how we think, decide and respond when things don't go to plan.
Why bring different businesses together?
Because we don't all see the same problems in the same way.
A manufacturer might immediately think about suppliers. A professional services firm might focus on customers. Someone working in healthcare might see consequences that nobody else has considered.
And all of them could be right.
One of the most valuable parts of the workshop is hearing how other people approach the same situation.
You might discover a different way of tackling a problem. Or realise you've been making an assumption about your own business that you've never really questioned.
That's where the learning happens.
Who is this for?
This workshop is designed for business owners, managing directors and senior leaders who are responsible for keeping their organisations moving.
Particularly those who:
- Make decisions that affect customers, employees or suppliers.
- Depend on other people, systems or organisations to deliver their services.
- Want to understand how their business might respond to disruption.
- Enjoy challenging their thinking and learning from others.
You don't need any knowledge of cybersecurity, risk management or business continuity.
You just need to bring your experience, your curiosity and a willingness to get involved.
What will you take away?
We're not promising that 60 minutes will make your business resilient.
But we do expect you to leave thinking differently about some of the things you rely on.
You should come away with a better understanding of how decisions get made under pressure, ideas from other business owners and at least one practical action worth taking back into your own organisation.
And perhaps a question that makes you look at something familiar in a completely different way.
Could you put your own leadership team through this?
Yes. And that's where things can get particularly interesting.
This workshop is a short introduction to a much broader approach.
Every organisation has different pressures, dependencies and decisions that matter.
A tailored resilience exercise can put your leadership team into a realistic situation based on your own business, giving them the opportunity to practise making decisions, explore difficult trade-offs and identify things they might otherwise overlook.
It isn't about catching people out or producing a pass or fail result.
It's about building confidence, improving understanding and helping people work more effectively together when it matters.
If you'd like to explore what that could look like for your organisation, speak to Simon at the workshop or get in touch with Oliver Lacey.
