International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports Federation

IWAS (International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports Federation) is a vibrant and constantly growing Federation providing opportunity for persons with a physical disability to participate in sport from grass roots to elite level worldwide. As the governing body of Powerchair Hockey and the Paralympic sport of Wheelchair Fencing, IWAS holds an annual international competition calendar as well as multi-sport World Games attracting as many as 800 athletes from 36 countries each year. IWAS has been in existence since 1952 following the vision of its creator and leader, Sir Ludwig Guttmann, in establishing the event now known as the Paralympic Games.
