A bit about us

British Artist Lydia Smith was born in 1995, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. She Attended the ‘Misbourne School’ in Great Missenden. At Lydia’s time of study the school was renowned for its art department lead by extraordinary teacher Mrs Maxine Nichols. From there she went on to study an art foundation at ‘The University of the Arts London’ (UAL) where she chose the Theatre and Screen pathway, creating puppets, prosthetics, set design and creature/character creation. Her next step was to attend ‘Wimbledon collage of Art’, a branch of UAL. Here specialise in Figurative sculpture studying ‘BA Honours Degree in Theatre and screen: Technical Arts and Special Effects'. Smith has also studied the academic sculpture method called ‘Drawing in Space’ under Robert Bodem and Eudald De Juana Gorriz at ‘Athens Sculpture Atelier’ (Athens) and ‘Geode Artspace’ (Spain). 

Smith has worked on many film and TV projects such as Game of Thrones, Star Wars IX, Tomb Raider, The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle, The Kid Who Would Be King, Avenue5 and Marvel. She has also returned to UAL to teach and lecture as an Associate Lecturer for BA (Hons) Production Arts for Screen, assisting with projects with all three levels of the course. Alongside teaching at this prestigious University, Smith offers opportunities for apprenticeships in her studio. She had her first apprentice in 2018/2019 learning from her one day a week for six months. Smith also runs private sculpting workshops from her studio and works with schools and colleges to teach figurative sculpture. 

Smith also used her sculpting abilities to participate in snow and ice carving competitions globally, where she has represented the UK. Her team has placed 2nd twice and 3rd at ‘Grindelwald World Snow Festival’ (2017,2018,2019) and 4th at ‘China, Harbin International Snow and Ice Championships’ (2019).
