With nearly 20 years of experience as a primary teacher, Wendy Stevenson Bunney moved into the tutoring arena when she founded her business, WSB Tutoring, specialising in providing tuition for children aged 7-11 with particular emphasis on 11+ tuition.
With the significant increase in children’s mental health issues, Wendy is unique in her 11+ offering providing a specialised programme that supports both parent and child. Both academic tutoring and holism are combined to nurture the child’s overall development, empowering children with vital skills to take forward to grammar school and with strategies that contribute to their lifelong, positive mental health.
The promotion of confidence, self-belief and a “can do” attitude is at the very core of her teaching. Her mission is to instil children with an enthusiasm and a life-long love of learning, helping them to reach their full potential.
Whilst being a firm believer in the idea that there is a suitable secondary school place for every child, Wendy is totally honest about the fact that this may not be a grammar school. As an advocate for children’s positive mental health, she will not tutor a child for a journey for which the end result is, at best unsuitable and, at worst, may cause long-term harm.
Having been through the 11+ journey with her own children, Wendy is well-aware of the “year of hell” that it can be. Through her calm, no-nonsense, honest approach, she supports not only the child but the parents too, helping them to navigate the challenges and minimise the stress.
In her spare time, Wendy can be found on a nearby dance floor where she loves to dance Lindy Hop – the thing that inspired her to teach in the first place but that’s another story! She also volunteers at a local grammar school where she gets to say hello to lots of former pupils!
