Improving performance through the application of better light has always been in our DNA. It all began in 1986 when our Founder Alex Pratt OBE designed a specialist sewing light for Singer Sewing Machines. It was so well received that Serious rapidly became the global choice for productivity-enhancing sewing lights across the World.
From there, production expanded into specialist lights for machine tools. Famed in industry for both light quality and durability, Serious soon established itself as the go-to light for special purpose vehicles including the Space Shuttle, ultra-high altitude balloons (including those used by Richard Branson in his world record attempts) and RNLI lifeboats. These days, Serious lights are sought after for a variety of light-dependent applications such as surgery, forensic science and fine art restoration.
In recent times we have made our technology and new products available to consumers as reading tools for use at home, and we have now sold over 250,000 Serious lights to fans in 63 countries around the Globe. Our individual customers number many doctors, surgeons, MPs, opticians, judges, academics and royalty.

Serious Readers is the absolute best firm I have dealt with in my nearly 70 years for customer service. Loved the original light I bought but developed a fault after nearly 5 years. Contacted firm and was able to send the light back for repair under warranty. Repaired AND updated to LED at no cost and a further one year warrant given. Two years later - out of warranty - another fault which I thought might be just the bulb I had replaced. They sent a new free bulb to try. Still a problem, so they arranged for light to be collected and repaired at no cost (out of warranty remember). Installed a new power unit in it and promptly returned with a card giving a further one year guarantee. No other firm has ever come near that level of customer service. When things go wrong I complain to the top. I wanted to go to the top when things go very right and I came across this site and review opportunity when looking for Alex Pratt's e-mail address.
