When I started tutoring I had no idea what was expected of me and very little knowledge of how to run a successful business.

All I knew was that over the years I had met educators who were fantastic and those who were equally awful…

When a friend finally managed to persuade me to have a go at tutoring I had a strong opinion on how I wanted to do it. Whether my opinion was right or not, I had no idea and little idea about how to go about building a successful tutoring business.

I believed then and I believe now: learning should be an enjoyable experience!

Simple.

If you are enjoying yourself you are in a better mental state to learn and as you start to learn more your confidence increases, you become more enthusiastic and you want to learn, so inevitably you will learn more.

In the past few years I have had parents ask how they can support their children through learning; so earlier this year I set up dawnstrachan.com where I focus on supporting parents in helping their own children.

This is done through a Facebook group, workshops, a growing range of e-books and correspondence courses. I also offer VIP days where I will work with you on a one to one basis offering advice on how you can support your child in a specific area of maths and /or English through the use of games and other varied activities (I have used these techniques with children from 5 to 16 years and with adults).

Over the past few years I have also supported others in creating their own successful tutoring businesses.

My aim here is to work with tutors who want to go the extra mile and make the lessons enjoyable & really cater to the needs of the individual student using a range of teaching techniques.

In recent weeks I have started the “Tutors’ Group”. An online group where tutors will be given ideas for resources they can adapt and use in their lessons and advice & support in growing their own business.
