File your self-assessment tax return early

With less than 100 days to go before the self-assessment deadline of 31st January 2020, avoid any last-minute rush by sending your completed 2018/19 tax return now.

HMRC offers a range of online support to help you get it right – including an online guide on self-employed business expenses and short ‘how to’ videos on the HMRC YouTube channel.

By completing your tax return early, you can find out how much you may need to pay and make payments before the deadline.

National Minimum Wage – make sure you are compliant

Employers must pay the National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage at the right rate. Make sure you are compliant with the law.

HMRC is hosting a webinar on Wednesday 6th November from 11am-12 noon for employers wanting to learn more.

Motoring expenses for the self-employed

HMRC has a selection of short ‘how to’ videos for the self-employed on its YouTube channel, including ‘Calculating motoring expenses’.

More information can be found in its online guide to self-employed business expenses. It’s broken down into sections making it easy to find what you’re looking for.

VAT reverse charge delayed

The introduction of a VAT domestic reverse charge for building and construction has been delayed by 12 months and will now be implemented on 1st October 2020.

Further guidance on the VAT reverse charge can be found on GOV.UK.
