B P Collins’ £10,000 charity fund is open again for nominations

Do you know a group or organisation that is working to improve lives in their community in the Aylesbury Vale, Chiltern, South Bucks or Wycombe districts?

The nominations for Buckinghamshire law firm B P Collins' charity fund have opened once again, via the firm’s stewardship with Heart of Bucks. The fund supports local charities and projects that are aimed at delivering positive social impacts and improving lives.

The awards are centred on meeting three objectives, which fit in with the firm’s CSR values: building stronger communities; providing better futures; and helping create safer lives. As long as the organisation nominated fits one of these themes, there are no restrictions on what the award can be used towards - it may be for general costs, purchasing equipment or to support a community project. The awards will range from £500 to £3,500 and nominations are open until midnight on August 31st 2018.

This year, B P Collins was awarded a gold mark in the recently launched Corporate Social Responsibility Accreditation scheme, a visible testimony of excellence in CSR.

Buckinghamshire County Council’s Fostering Friendly campaign

By Richard Nash, Service Director, Children’s Social Care, Buckinghamshire County Council

As successful and thriving businesses in Buckinghamshire, we all strive to do our best for our customers, clients and employees. As caring and responsible employers we also want to make sure our business and the way we operate has a positive impact on the wider community.

Did you know there is a simple, low cost way you can support families and children in our local communities? All it involves is signing up to become a Fostering Friendly employer.

The commitment on your part is minimal but the benefits to those affected are significant. In addition to creating a Fostering Friendly HR policy, the only other commitment you need to make is to promote fostering to your staff at key times of the year such as during Foster Care Fortnight every May. This can be as simple as including a short article in an internal newsletter, displaying a poster or allowing us to host a drop-in information session for staff in your office.

Adopting a Fostering Friendly approach can have a positive impact on all those involved, from the child in care who is able to live in a stable and loving foster home to the employee who can carry out their dual roles confident in the knowledge that their employer will give them the flexibility and support they need. Additionally, you, the employer can benefit greatly from the positive impact on your staff and the wider benefits that this brings to your reputation in the local community and beyond.

Drop-ins at Lindengate

Lindengate is opening its gardens to the local community in monthly drop-in events, with the next scheduled for August 22nd.

The beautiful 5-acre gardens are usually only open to Lindengate’s service-users (referred to as Gardeners) and their volunteers or groups. But the drop-in events offer the opportunity for members of the public to enjoy the gardens, find out more about how Lindengate supports people with mental health needs, and learn about their conservation projects and exciting volunteer opportunities. They can also enjoy some lovely tea and cake with good company to boot!

The events are free. Book here >

Play a round of golf in aid of Lindengate on September 26th at Ellesborough Golf Club. A 2-course lunch is included, with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams, as well as for the longest drive and nearest the pin.
