Private rents in Buckinghamshire

At £1,113 per month, mean private sector rents in Buckinghamshire are 29.7 per cent higher than across England as a whole, ranking 3rd highest among the 27 county council areas and 4th among the 38 Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs). At the median, average rents are £950, 36.7 per cent above the national level, to rank 4th among county council areas.

Rents in South Bucks are the highest in the county at both the mean and the median at £1,458 and £1,200, to rank 19th and 33rd respectively among English local authorities and the 2nd and 6th highest outside London.  Average rents are above the national level in all other Buckinghamshire districts on both measures, with only Aylesbury Vale seeing rental levels below the South East regional averages to rank just outside the national top 100 most expensive rents.

Buckinghamshire and its surrounding areas have some of the highest rents in England (see the map at the end of this bulletin).  When compared by numbers of rooms, properties in the county generally rank as being the 4th most expensive behind Surrey, Oxfordshire and Hertfordshire.  The median private rent for a room in Buckinghamshire is £495 (4th), with the county also ranking 4th most expensive for studios (£675) and 4th for one bedroom properties (£750).  Median rents for two bedroom properties stood at £925 (4th), rising to £1,250 for three bedrooms (3rd) and £1,750 for properties with four or more bedrooms (4th).  Median rents by size of property are presented in table 2, with mean rents in table 3.
