Retrofit Skills

Buckinghamshire Business First is working with businesses to understand how well prepared we are here in Buckinghamshire to ‘retrofit’ older housing and commercial property stock and make them more energy efficient.

What we are asking from businesses

We would like to hold a 15-minute phone call with you so that you can tell us about your experience of providing retrofit services, and in particular, whether your workforce has the skills required.

The call will focus on:

  • The extent to which you have the skills in your business to deliver retrofit services
  • Your experience of accessing retrofit training and development
  • Your future demand for employees with specific retrofit skills
  • What incentives and support you would like to see in place to encourage you to go after the skills you need.

About the research

We are undertaking this initial research with employers to better understand their experiences of upskilling their workforce and recruiting staff with appropriate retrofit skills. The research will result in an action plan for the county to address the issues raised.

The Local Skills Improvement Plan undertaken last year identified that green skills are becoming more important for employers, and specifically for those offering retrofit services to help reduce energy use and carbon emissions in existing buildings.

To get involved, you can:

A member of our team will then be in touch over the next couple of weeks to discuss with you in more detail.

This project is being funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) through the Greater South East Net Zero Hub.
