The successful end of the LEADER Programme
The LEADER Programme is a standard-bearer among its peers of rural business support schemes, as you can see from some of the achievements and impacts over the course of the programme.
The LEADER Programme:
- directly supported 146 rural organisations with a LEADER grant.
- helped create 293 new jobs in Chilterns, Clay Vales and North & West Northamptonshire (thus far).
- supported the setup of 13 new businesses, the launch of 42 new products, 87 new services, and 109 new techniques.
- funded 219 pieces of equipment and new technologies.
- enabled rural businesses to reach 118 new customers locally, 45 new customers nationally and 7 new export markets.
- supported £4.87million additional income and £1.47m additional profit to the rural sector.
- created a combined £14.1m investment in rural areas, with £5.8m in grants awarded, alongside match-funding of £8.3m.
Local creamery diversifies and creates new rural tourism destination

Award-winning, Chilterns-based artisan cheesemakers Nettlebed Creamery increased productivity and employed 30 members of staff by developing and implementing two new projects funded by LEADER programme grants.
