Buckinghamshire Council - sponsors of the Apprentice and Young Person Employer of the Year Award

Interview with Cllr. Joseph Baum, Deputy Cabinet Member for Skills, Buckinghamshire Council.

What do the Buckinghamshire Business Awards mean to Buckinghamshire Council?

"As a council, we place a lot of emphasis on supporting young people at the start of their working lives. We know that our businesses in Buckinghamshire do too.

"The awards give us an opportunity to hear about the commitment that businesses in the county have to developing their workforce and enabling young people a chance to learn skills, gain experience and advance their careers.

"The awards are a great opportunity to celebrate excellence, innovation, leadership and hard work, and demonstrate the achievements and positive impact businesses make to the economy.

"Buckinghamshire Council are once again proud to be involved in the awards."

What impressed and inspired you most about last year’s winners, CUBE, and the runners-up, Seymour Taylor and Zenopa?

"We know that the quality of submissions has traditionally been high, and last year’s finalists in this category were again of great quality and calibre. They represented a diverse range of businesses all committed to enhancing their workforce.

"We look forward to being a part of sharing the stories of how investment in young people has helped boost what businesses do and the success that they have experienced as a result."

What do you see as the benefits to employers of hiring apprentices and young people?

"Developing the workforce by employing young people is a great way to change the way you as a business go about doing things. By developing those talents, it ensures that the future of your business is in safe hands.

"Taking on apprentices and young people is something Buckinghamshire Council do as an employer. They can bring fresh perspectives, ideas, and creativity to the workplace, which can help the business innovate and adapt to changing customer needs and market trends.

"We are pleased to be able to provide those opportunities for young people to flourish."
