The Department for Business and Trade is encouraging nominations for the UK honours system, helping to shine a light on individuals whose contributions deserve national recognition.
What Makes a Strong Honours Nomination?
According to guidance shared by the Department for Business and Trade, successful nominations are built around impact. The strongest examples typically demonstrate:
- Significant achievements and contributions
- Evidence of going above and beyond what would normally be expected
- A positive impact on a sector, community or the wider UK
- Measurable outcomes and lasting benefits
- Support from people who can attest to the nominee's contribution
The guidance also highlights the importance of explaining why an individual's work matters, what difference they have made and what sets them apart from others in similar roles.
Looking Beyond High-Profile Figures
Many people assume honours are reserved for household names. In reality, awards often recognise people making a difference through their work, volunteering, community leadership, skills development, innovation or support for others.
Across Buckinghamshire, there are countless individuals who quietly create opportunities, strengthen communities and help businesses thrive. The challenge is ensuring their contributions are recognised.
