Ever thought of using your skills on a film set?

Do you have skills in construction, textiles, logistics, painting or accounting? Attend a 2-day course at Pinewood Studios to learn more.

Skills to Film is a collaboration between ScreenSkills and Pinewood Studios that offers people living and working close to the studios the chance to explore working in the film industry.

On the weekend of June 8th and 9th, attendees will learn more about the film industry and where their skills could fit through information sessions, panels and hands-on workshops. The weekend will be followed by a networking event at Pinewood Studios on June 26th for Skills to Film attendees to meet studio and production company staff and managers.

There are five areas of focus which have been identified as skills gaps in the film industry, as described by ScreenSkills:

  • Art: The art department is often the largest department on a film set and is responsible for all the visual elements of a film or high-end TV show. If you have previous experience in painting, draughtsmanship or technical drawing, you may have the skills to work in a film art department.
  • Costume: The costume department is responsible for finding, creating or hiring the costumes for every character on screen. If you have previous experience in fashion, sewing or fitting and measurements, you may have the skills to work in the costume department.
  • Locations: Finding the right locations to shoot a film is hugely important and has a big impact on the feel of the end result. If you have experience in work involving marshalling or logistics - e.g. as a police officer - or driving, then you may have the skills to work in this department.
  • Construction: The construction of sets for film and TV is a complicated process involving a huge range of skills and artistry. If you have previous experience in construction, carpentry, plastering or rigging and scaffolding, you may have the skills to work in this department.
  • Accounts: Finance and accounting is a huge part of getting a film made. If you have previous experience in accounting in other sectors, you may also be able to work as a film accountant.

Applications close on Sunday April 28th 2019.
