Private sector rents in Buckinghamshire, Q1 2017

At £1,144 per month, median private sector rents in Buckinghamshire are more than a third (34.3 per cent) higher than across England as a whole, ranking 3rd highest among the 27 county council areas and 4th among the 38 Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs), behind London, Oxfordshire and Enterprise M3.

Mean private rents in Buckinghamshire for the year ending Q1 2017 were 2.8 per cent higher than in the preceding year, the 12th fastest rise among county council areas, ranking 19th highest among LEPs.  Median monthly rents rose 2.7 per cent in the last year to £950, 40.7 per cent above England’s median and the 4th highest among county council areas.

South Bucks has both the highest mean rent in Buckinghamshire and the 14th highest of all 326 local authorities in England at £1,620 per month.  The median monthly rent in Chiltern and South Bucks is £1,250, the joint 26th highest median private sector rents ahead of Wycombe (£1,000, 59th) and Aylesbury Vale (£850, 90th).

The mean private rent for a room in Buckinghamshire is £454 and £410 at the median, falling to £375 at the 25th percentile. While this gives Buckinghamshire only the 9th most expensive median private rents for rooms among the 27 county council area, Buckinghamshire’s studios are the 5th most expensive at £585 per month. Median rents for one bedroom properties stood at £725 to rank 4th, rising to £900 for two bedrooms (4th), £1,250 for three bedrooms (3rd) and £1,845 for properties with four or more bedrooms (4th). Median rents by size of property are presented in table 2 with mean rents in table 3.
