There are plenty of ways for rural businesses to get their voice heard, whether by attending local meetings or providing insights via surveys that go straight to those in power. Here are a few opportunities open now.
Buckinghamshire Council's Rural Forum
The next Rural Forum hosted by Buckinghamshire Council takes place at 5pm on Thursday 6th March. It's on online meeting via Microsoft Teams.
This is a great place to raise awareness of rural business matters among those in attendance, who include local councillors and Members of Parliament.
For more information about attending the Rural Forum, contact Liz Hornby at Buckinghamshire Council at [email protected] or 01494 421261.
Contact your local MP
Whilst the Rural Forum is a great place to hear a collective voice, it is also important to contact your local MP individually to highlight issues that you are faced with at present.

MPs' Briefing events
At Buckinghamshire Business First, we regularly hold briefing events with Buckinghamshire MPs that are able to be attended by a small group of local employers. Keep an eye on our email communications to see if there is an opportunity coming up for you to attend. Invitations to MPs Briefings are restricted to businesses within each individual MP's constituency.
Two opportunities to have your say
How can the government best support SMEs to grow?
We would like your feedback on how the government can best support SMEs to achieve a step-change in growth and productivity.
Your views matter the most. The more we can bring your challenges to life with examples of real-life consequences of government policy, the more impact we will have in helping policymakers understand the unintended consequences suffered by businesses.
Your valuable insights into the local economy are fed into our conversations and meetings with local MPs, our contacts at the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), as well as other stakeholders, to ensure the voice of Buckinghamshire firms is being heard nationally.
Please say what you want to say here and we will make sure your voice is heard when we share your feedback with government representatives in the coming weeks and months.
We can share your views with the Bank of England
At regular panel sessions, business views are shared with the Bank of England and reported back to the Monetary Policy Committee, which is the body that decides what monetary policy action the Bank of England will take with regards to interest rates and inflation.
If you have a point you would like to be raised at the next meeting, let us know here.
