Proactively managing and measuring how staff travel to, from, and for work can bring huge business benefits.
Small and medium-sized businesses in Buckinghamshire can benefit from a fully-funded Travel Plan thanks to a new initiative from Buckinghamshire Council in partnership with Buckinghamshire Business First and PJA (Phil Jones Associates).
This DEFRA-funded initiative aims to improve air quality whilst helping businesses reduce costs and increase productivity and staff retention.
What is involved?
You will work with Travel Planning consultancy PJA to gain accreditation on the recognised travel planning platform Modeshift STARS. Depending on the size and structure of your organisation, PJA will support you in creating either a light-touch Travel Plan Statement or a Full Travel Plan which will include monitoring, objectives, and an action plan.
In addition, you will get the opportunity to access Driving for Better Business resources.
What is a Travel Plan?
Travel Plans are designed to reduce car use and increase sustainable travel, with benefits including:
- reduced traffic, air pollution, emissions, and carbon footprints
- improved physical and mental health and wellbeing
- improved staff retention
A well-thought-out Travel Plan includes realistic objectives, a clear plan of action, and a review of activity. It contributes to effective cost management, enhances productivity and efficiency, mitigates risks associated with business travel, and supports your corporate social responsibility goals.
What are the benefits?
Getting staff to and from work and controlling costs while doing so are key concerns of many businesses in Buckinghamshire. The benefits are numerous:
- Cost saving / control
- Improved productivity and efficiency
- Reducing risk
- Reducing your carbon emissions
- Improved staff health and wellbeing
- Positive impact on corporate social responsibility
- Supporting environmental targets
- Increased levels of staff retention and employability
- Better response to changes in workplace travel
