Achievement Mentor

We are looking to recruit several Achievement Mentors, to work with selected study programme students from across the college

Responsibilities

12 weeks fixed term contract, working 37 hours per week.

Are you keen to mentor and support young people to achieve their full potential? Do you have the interpersonal skills to work with 16–19-year-old students, in one-to-one and small groups, to ensure that they achieve their qualifications?

We are looking to recruit several Achievement Mentors, to work with selected study programme students from across the college so that they have intensive guidance and support to achieve their qualification aims.

The Achievement Mentor will work with 16-19 students rated ‘at risk’ and ‘high risk’ in to support them to achieve their qualifications in the Summer Term by:

  • Developing action plans with students and monitor progress
  • Motivate and inspire students to work towards their achieving their goals
  • Support students to raise ambition and achieve challenging targets
  • Support students with implementing study skills and time management strategies
  • Assist students with their studies in one-to-one or group settings
  • Make records of student interventions and interactions
  • Work effectively with Course Leaders, Teachers and Support Services to ensure that students are supported to overcome learning barriers

The 12-week role is available from Weds 17th April – Weds 17th July 2024

There are roles available at our Aylesbury Campus, Flackwell Heath Campus in High Wycombe, and Amersham Campus. Part-time roles will be considered.

Key Requirements:

  • Level 3 Qualification/s
  • Maths and English Qualifications to level 2 or higher
  • Willingness and confidence to work with young people aged 16-19
  • Good role model who is suitable to work with children and young people and committed to safeguarding

Person Specification

Essential:

Formal Qualification

  • Level 3 qualification
  • Maths and English qualification to Level 2 or higher.

Knowledge

  • An understanding of, and demonstrable commitment to, Safeguarding Children and Young People and Vulnerable Adults
  • Awareness of the need to protect confidential information
  • Knowledge of administrative systems
  • Knowledge of post-16 education.

Experience

  • Experience of working with young people
  • Experience working in an educational environment

Skills

  • Effective communication skills
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • The ability to take responsibility for several jobs simultaneously, and see them through to completion
  • Ability to promote and deliver outstanding customer service.
  • The ability to use own initiative in the solution of problems
