An exciting opportunity has arisen at Buckinghamshire College Group for an enthusiastic Variable Hours Lecturer in Sport & potentially the Public Services at the Wycombe Campus with the flexibility to work at our Aylesbury Campus. 

 Our sport courses offer students the opportunity to explore all disciplines in the sport and fitness industries. Similarly, the public service courses offer students the opportunity to explore all public sector industries. Subjects are explored in both a practical and theoretical manner, and we are looking for a candidate who has vocational / professional / academic experience in sport as well as potentially served in the uniformed services. We can provide full teacher training and support to the successful candidate.

Taking Teaching Further

The College actively engages with the Education & Training Foundation’s Taking Teaching Further scheme to recruit industry professionals to teach within Further Education.

As industry professionals offer our students industry experience and insight we support our unqualified teachers to learn ‘on the job’. You will be given full support throughout your development to fully qualified teacher status. Whilst in employment you would be enrolled onto the Level 3 Award in Education and Training. After completion you can choose to move be onto our Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training qualification. This is a great way for experienced professionals to achieve a recognised teaching qualification whilst in employment.

Person Specification

Essential:

Formal Qualification

  • Level 3 qualification in relevant area or Degree level qualification in a relevant subject area or equivalent in industry experience.
  •  Teaching qualification or willingness to obtain designated teaching qualification within specified time.
  •  Maths and English qualification to Level 2 or higher.
  •  Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) or willingness to work towards.
  •  Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Process and Practice (CLIQA) or willingness to work towards.
  •  Vocation qualifications in Coaching sport and/or Fitness Instruction & Personal Training
  •  Up to date, relevant industry or professional experience

Knowledge

  • An in-depth and practical knowledge of relevant subject.
  •  Knowledge of current qualification structure.
  •  Knowledge of issues affecting Further Education.
  •  Relevant, successful experience of instructing, training or teaching.

Experience

  • Recent, successful professional experience in the relevant area
  •  Ability to develop students’ employability, life and learning skills to satisfy College and employer needs.
  •  Previous experience in the Public Services

Skills

  • Ability to inspire and motivate students to be ambitious for themselves and to attain to their highest level.
  •  Skills, knowledge and understanding to teach a range of subjects and qualification levels.
  •  Ability to communicate with a diverse range of students on both theoretical and practical aspects.
  • Ability to use ILT facilities to support student learning and effectively maintain course management.
  •  Good organisational and administrative skills
  •  Able to work with LSA/LDA to support students learning
  •  Able to manage an instructor/technician (where appropriate).
  •  Ability to plan and prepare innovative schemes of work, lesson plans and assessment schedules which motivate students to achieve
