Friars Square Shopping Centre in Aylesbury is set to welcome its newest resident, Top Shop, as part of a major redevelopment in the autumn.
A £2m development is due to begin shortly on a 5,000sq ft. store that will house the men’s and women’s clothing store and follows the recent opening of H & M in the town centre. Further construction work is due to build a glass and timber pavilion housing six units, as the whole area gets an injection of investment designed to boost long term growth and stability.
While a lot of high-profile names have disappeared from the high street in recent months after being forced into closure, this is welcome news. It proves that Britain’s shopping streets aren’t defeated yet, as centre manager Andy Margieson points out: “This is a real vote of confidence in Aylesbury town centre in the current difficult retail environment. It makes a really strong fashion statement for Friars Square coming on top of the opening of H&M’s fantastic new store and following on from Blue Inc’s arrival last year.
H & M opened on 31 January with over 300 people queuing prior to its opening time of 11 a.m.”
