Buckinghamshire’s economy – May 2018

South Bucks ranks high nationally for company registrations; and Buckinghamshire’s claimant count falls to the 2nd lowest in the country.

Company registrations

There were 1,353 businesses registered in Buckinghamshire in the first quarter of 2018 (January to March), according to Companies House. 

South Bucks recorded Buckinghamshire’s highest new registration rate with 54.1 registrations per 10,000 residents aged 16 or over, ranking 22nd among the 380 local authority districts in Great Britain.

Claimant count

Buckinghamshire’s claimant count fell by 40 in April to stand at 3,075. Over the last year the county’s claimant count has risen by 3.7 per cent, less than a third of the national rate of increase and the 3rd and 2nd lowest rate of increase among the 27 county council areas and 38 Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) respectively.
