Chiltern Music Therapy brings the power of music to those who need it most

Chiltern Music Therapy brings the power of music to those who need it the most. We are a dynamic and creative not-for-profit organisation impassioned to ensure that our award winning, evidence-based music therapy service is accessible to all who need it.

Music therapy is a unique tool which helps to improve communication, social skills and behavioural and emotional difficulties in people of all ages. We provide services across 14 counties in the UK and are proud to have the largest team in the UK of therapists who provide specialist Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) for adults and children with neuro-disabilities. We are pleased to ensure that everyone can access our services regardless of their financial situation, and we are delighted to have given over £22,500 worth of bro-bono sessions in the last year alone.

Helping children like Louisa...

Our therapists work with adults and children with a range of needs including those with autism, learning disabilities, mental health conditions, dementia and brain injuries. Recently, we have been supporting children like Louisa. Louisa is 10 months old and has been diagnosed with Leukodystrophy, a life-limiting, rare, neuro-degenerative condition. Music therapy for Louisa gives her the space to increase her enjoyment and interaction with music and gives her an opportunity to share this with her mum, dad and brother, so that they can strengthen their emotional connection with her. Music therapy will also help Louisa to gain an understanding of her surroundings through musical stimulation as well as giving her the chance to engage in a way that is not focused on her medical condition. Louisa's life expectancy and prognosis is sadly uncertain but music therapy will help contribute towards her having the best quality of life during this time.

Chiltern Music Therapy supporting the local community

Alongside our work with individuals, we are passionate about supporting the local community. We have set up a number of choirs for those with dementia and learning disabilities, music groups for those with mental health problems, and DJ workshops for young adults looking for a different way to access music. We have a brilliant team of community musicians who run these and multiple other groups across the South East, enabling people to access music in unique ways.

Buckinghamshire Business Awards finalists

We were thrilled to have made the finals of the Buckinghamshire Business Awards this year. It provided a huge boost to the organisation to be recognised for the important and life-changing work that our music therapists and community musicians do on a day-to-day basis.

Plans for the future

We have lots of exciting plans for the future, including our exciting new partnership with Yamaha. We are also working with Apple and Skullcandy to launch the first UK iPod pharmacy. Alongside these wonderful new partnerships, we are predominately looking forward to expanding our team of therapists and community musicians so that we can help many more people across the county benefit from the power of music.
