There were 1,167 businesses registered in Buckinghamshire in the third quarter of 2017 (July to September), according to Companies House. There have been 5,087 new businesses registered in the last year, an increase of 94 or 1.9 per cent over the previous 12 months.
Only seven of the 38 Local Enterprise Partnerships bettered England’s rate of new company registration, with Buckinghamshire ranking 11th with 27.4 registrations for every 10,000 residents aged 16 or over. Buckinghamshire ranked 4th among county council areas behind Worcestershire (38.4), Northamptonshire (36.9) and Hertfordshire (36.1).
South Bucks recorded Buckinghamshire’s highest new registration rate at 44.7 registrations per resident aged 16 or over, to rank 33rd among the 380 local authority districts in Great Britain and 14th highest outside London. No other Buckinghamshire district bettered the national rate. Chiltern ranked 92nd with a registration rate of 26.9 ahead of Wycombe (26.3, 96th) and Aylesbury Vale (22.3, 137th).

Companies engaged in business support activities were the most commonly registered in Buckinghamshire in the last quarter, with 92 new registrations, accounting for 7.9 per cent of the total, ahead of management consultancies (78, 6.7), other service activities (60, 5.1), IT consultancies (56, 4.8), and the letting or operation of owned or leased real estate (44, 3.8)
