Buckinghamshire’s productivity is the 4th highest among the 38 Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs), ranking 27th among the 168 NUTS3 regions in the UK and 5th highest outside London.

Buckinghamshire is one of only eight LEPs where productivity is above that of England’s and is one of only 48 NUTS3 regions to better UK productivity.

The productivity of Buckinghamshire’s NUTS 2 area - Berkshire, Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire - ranked 4th among the UK’s 40 NUTS 2 regions behind Inner London West, Inner London East and Outer London West and North West, but saw growth of only 1.9 per cent, only the 32nd strongest performance among NUTS2 areas and well below the 2.5 per cent recorded across England.  Of its four constituent NUTS3 areas, only Milton Keynes’ growth of 3.0 per cent bettered the UK’s 2.5, ahead of Oxfordshire (2.4), Buckinghamshire (1.6), and Berkshire (1.4).

Buckinghamshire’s real productivity fell for a second successive year in 2017, while hours worked rose to a record high of 8.5m per week.  Since 2012, real productivity in Buckinghamshire has fallen 2.2 per cent while rising 2.8 per cent across the UK and 4.2 per cent across the South East.  Buckinghamshire’s real productivity is now the same as in 2008, over the same period real national productivity has risen 1.9 per cent.
