A newly refurbished Sainsbury’s superstore in Aylesbury is part of plans to revitalise the town and bring hundreds of new jobs into the area.
Under the plans proposed by the supermarket giant, Aylesbury would see a second food store built to go along with a renovation of the current store in the town centre. The new store will be situated on the vacant ‘Gatehouse’ site at the corner of Bicester Road and Gatehouse Way.
The wide-ranging plans are estimated to bring up to 300 new jobs to the local area, as well as several dozen new affordable apartments, 50 retirement living apartments, improved road and pedestrian access around the locality, as well as implementation of a sustainable energy programme linked to the new store. Currently empty shop units on Cambridge Street would also be filled, encouraging greater footfall.
The multi-million pound investment is designed to provide Aylesbury with a huge boost to its economy and aesthetic. Sainsbury’s want to hear your views on the plans. Their online feedback form is available until September 24th, after which the final proposals and planning applications will be submitted to Aylesbury Vale District Council.
There will be two public exhibitions on 14th & 15th September where members of the public can meet the development team and put any queries to them.
