Innovation is for all businesses - we can help you get started

What was the last innovation you introduced into your business?

This could be anything from a cutting-edge piece of machinery to a streamlined process that solves a problem and increases productivity.

Ideas for innovation can come from anywhere – business owners, staff, clients, external prompts – but it doesn’t matter where the idea came from, what matters is making the most of it.

The process for innovating centres largely on communication and learning, not just bringing staff on the journey with you, but travelling side by side with them.

Build resilience into your business

From pandemics and recessions to the rising cost of living and cost of doing business, it has never been more necessary to ensure your business is resilient to whatever events come next.

Fresh ideas and innovations can help build resilience into your business. Ask yourself what new processes or products would help you save money and build resilience.

Innovations are not only for ‘techie’ businesses

Any business can innovate. A big part of the support we offer involves helping businesses introduce and develop new ideas, thinking, processes, products and services.

From the Growth Advice Service and Growth Grants to the Low Carbon Workspaces programme, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at just how much innovation support is right at your fingertips!

That’s right – innovating can save you money on your energy bills and help you play your part in the fight against climate change!

Innovating means thinking differently. We begin to think differently about age-old problems when we communicate and collaborate.

AI and data science pilot programme with The Alan Turing Institute

The Alan Turing Institute is a national institute for data science and artificial intelligence that works with businesses, universities, the public and third sector organisations to apply research to real-world challenges in science, society and the economy using data science and AI.

They are developing a pilot programme for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and data science researchers to undertake collaborative research that can tackle some of the Grand Challenges in AI.

The project will include setting challenges and working collaboratively on ideas with data science researchers from around the UK. This will then be followed by an internship where one researcher will join the SME partner to develop the idea further into something viable.

This pilot programme focuses on helping early-stage SMEs at the research development phase, working towards helping them to scale up.

At this stage, they are encouraging SMEs to express their interest in joining this programme by emailing Cera Wong at: cwong@turing.ac.uk
