Supporting young leaders and learners in Buckinghamshire

Our last two Mix96 shows have showcased two young business leaders and the upcoming Bucks Skills Show, which will showcase careers to young people searching for a pathway from education to employment.

The June 13th edition of the Buckinghamshire Business First radio show highlighted the exploits of two of the county’s brightest young business talents, Richard Bateman of Westfourstreet and David Humpston of Viewpoint Videos.

Richard Bateman, Westfourstreet

Richard, who recently spoke to us about his journey as an entrepreneur, explained to Mix96’s Max Hailey how he went from teaching himself web development and going to night school to working for others and finally deciding to be his own boss. He described the journey from the “messy” first year getting to grips with taxes and regulations to his current position having just expanded the business and forming a team of seven.

He also delivered some tips for listeners and spoke about the benefits of being a part of Buckinghamshire Business First.

David Humpston, Viewpoint Videos

At 21 years of age, David has already enjoyed good success with Viewpoint Videos, who create videos that help capture and share people’s experiences of things like paintballing, karting and sky diving.

As David described to Max, he wasn’t sure what to study at University after completing his A-Levels so decided against it and instead enrolled at the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy, eventually pitching his business idea to Peter Jones himself and winning funding to help get his business up and running.

David, who can often be seen working at the Buckinghamshire Business First Saunderton Hub, gave Max an insight into the future plans for Viewpoint Videos and provided his own tips for young would-be entrepreneurs.

He also engaged industry as well so they could be part of the process.

Enterprise Lab has since gone international and more than 500,000 people have been supported by it.
