Dynamic Skills Show opens employment doors to the young

The Bucks Skills Show will allow businesses to showcase careers in their sectors to young people searching for a pathway from education to employment.

Buckinghamshire Thames Valley Local Enterprise Partnership (BTVLEP), through its Buckinghamshire Skills and Employability Programme, prides itself on successfully supporting the educational and employment needs of young people in Buckinghamshire. That is why it is hosting The Bucks Skills Show on July 2, bringing young people and businesses together for the benefit of both.

Contrary to the recent report ‘Improving the transition from School to Work’, by the House of Lords Committee on Social Mobility - which highlights that 53 per cent of school leavers who opt not to go to university or do A-levels are often allowed to “drift” into their first job or further education, with no real prospect of progression - Buckinghamshire’s Skills Hub prides itself on providing the support and options for all young people to maximise their potential whatever career path they choose.

The Bucks Skills Show – which is free and can be booked onto here - takes place on July 2 at the University Campus Aylesbury Vale and is aimed at young people aged 14 plus and their parents. Young people will get impartial, varied exposure to as many careers and employers as possible – through exhibitors and speakers – so that they may be inspired, become better informed, and ultimately make better decisions about the next stage of their education or career.

For employers, it is an opportunity to raise awareness of careers in their respective business sectors. Confirmed exhibitors include: GE Healthcare, GlaxoSmithKline, Intel, ICAEW, Big Bang, Health Care Bucks, The Enterprise Lab, Hartwell House, plus many more. Further Education colleges and training providers will also be on hand to give advice and guidance.

In addition, there will be varied line-up of high profile industry and education professionals speaking insightfully about their careers throughout the day.

Jackie Campbell, Skills Development Manager at BTVLEP, said: “In our high achieving county, young people are looking for fulfilling careers and it is important that we provide a broad range of career paths for consideration, alongside the popular options of college and university. As part of this drive to offer a wide spectrum of options we are holding our first Skills Show in July to provide young people, and their parents, with all the facts and information to make informed choices for their careers.”
