Transport for Buckinghamshire – who are we and what do we do?

Transport for Buckinghamshire explain what they do, their pledge to customers, and how to get in touch to report any problems.

By Transport for Buckinghamshire

Transport for Buckinghamshire (TfB) act on behalf of Buckinghamshire County Council as the highway authority. This means that we are responsible for maintaining over 3,200km of highway throughout Buckinghamshire.

As well as repairing road defects, such as potholes, TfB is also responsible for maintaining and repairing gullies and drains, traffic signals, bridges, streetlights, road signs and safety fences, pedestrian barriers, bollards and other installations within the highway boundary, faded or missing road markings, ironwork, overgrown trees and hedges, grass cuttings and any other defects that might present a risk to highway users.

In some cases, defects and maintenance may be the responsibility of the local parish or town council, under devolved services. Buckinghamshire County Council has a budget of £455,000 for devolved services. Parish and town councils who choose to take on devolved services are given a portion of this budget and agree to provide a set of highway services with it, including urban grass cutting, hedging, weed killing and clearing rights of way. Taking on devolved services means that parish and town councils can set their own standards, manage their own schedules and carry out the work in a way that best suits their communities.

Our customer pledge

Transport for Buckinghamshire has a customer pledge, which promises customers three things:

  • We will put safety first in everything they do
  • We will act professionally
  • We will keep the customer involved

By sticking to the customer pledge, TfB is able to deliver the best results for members of the public and safely maintain the highways to keep the county moving.

How to report problems

As part of the pledge, TfB appeal to customers to report problems and give feedback about the service – whether we’ve got it right or wrong. This can be done using the Fix My Street tool here: https://www.fixmystreet.buckscc.gov.uk/
