BBF confirmed to lead new Local Skills Improvement Plan for Buckinghamshire

Buckinghamshire Business First (BBF) is delighted to confirm that it has been appointed by Skills England as the Employer Representative Body (ERB) for Buckinghamshire to lead the development of the county’s next Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP).

This new phase will be delivered in partnership with Buckinghamshire Council, aligning with the Council’s Economic Growth Plan and Skills and Employment Strategy.

The LSIP is a government-backed initiative that places employers at the heart of the local skills system. It aims to ensure that post-16 technical education and training meets the needs of businesses, helping learners gain the skills they need to secure good jobs and supporting economic growth across the county.

The new LSIP development process will officially launch on 27th November 2025 at the Buckinghamshire Business Showcase and AGM, marking the start of a renewed phase of employer-led collaboration.

This new plan builds on the success of the existing LSIP, launched in June 2023, which has already delivered significant impact:

  • Construction and Engineering: New facilities and apprenticeship programmes are being developed at Buckinghamshire College Group, including a new Engineering Hub and expanded provision in mechanical and electrical engineering.
  • Green Energy: Funding for a new Green Energy Skills Hub at Buckinghamshire College Group to training skills in the retrofit of low carbon energy solutions for residential properties.
  • Health & Social Care: A pilot Volunteering Skills Record is underway to help young people leaving education develop essential work-readiness skills, with potential application across all sectors.
  • Digital, Film & TV: Sector-specific initiatives are underway, including feasibility work for a Film & TV Skills Hub and new digital apprenticeships.
  • Space: The LSIP helped secure £5.9 million for a new technical and training facility at Westcott Venture Park.
  • Skills Bootcamps: Buckinghamshire Council has secured £3.2 million for 24 Skills Bootcamps to address shortages in LSIP priority sectors.

To support implementation, BBF has established Sector Employer Groups in the priority sectors.  These groups have brought employers and providers together like never before, helping to shape curriculum, support new provision, and showcase careers at events such as the Bucks Skills Show.
